Under the process, a two millimeter paste of fuller's earth or multani mitti is applied on surface of the marble walls then polythene sheets are cover the paste for prolonging the effect and then it is left to dry for a couple of days. Later, when the layer of dried clay falls off, the walls are finally washed with distilled water. The paste while drying absorbs dirt, grease and other sorts of deposits, leaving the stone surface clean. This method is non-abrasive, non-corrosive and quite effective in the removal of adherent accretionary deposits. This method has been successfully used in UK and Italy for conservation purpose.
