Itinerary

Day 1Arrival Delhi

You will arrive at the Delhi Airport. Delhi is India’s national capital and the second largest metropolis after Mumbai. Delhi has been continuously inhabited since the 6th century BC. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.An overnight stay in Delhi.

Day 2Delhi

On your first day, you will explore the old and new city of Delhi. You’ll be mesmerized by the 100-feet, red-stone boundary walls of Red Fort built during the 17th century. Opposite to this ancient structure is Jama Masjid (Mosque), built in 1656 AD, construction of red sandstone and white marble. It is the largest mosque in India where 20,000 people can pray together at a time. You will also tour the city in a Rickshaw. Along the streets of old Delhi you will see the Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi (Father of the Nation) Memorial, which is close to the river Yamuna. Next, you will visit Humayun’s Tomb, tomb of the second Mughal emperor, which was built by his wife during the 16th century, and then you will visit Qutub Minar, a 220-feet tower made by one of the first Muslim leaders in India, built between 1199 and 1368 AD. It runs counter to Rashtrapati Bhawan, the residence of the President of India. There you’ll also see the Government Buildings, Parliament. An overnight stay in Delhi.

Day 3Delhi to Jaipur (By air-conditioned train Dep 0610 Hrs Arr 1040 Hours)

Early morning pick up from hotel & transfer to railway station to board the superfast airconditioned train to Jaipur. You will have breakfast in the train. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel. Later sight seeing tour of Jaipur covering: City Palace – A delightful blend of Mughal and traditional Rajasthani architecture, the City Palace sprawls over one-seventh of the area in the walled city. It houses the Chandra Mahal, Shri Govind Dev Temple and the City Palace Museum.
Then you will visit Jantar Mantar. It is the largest and the best preserved of the five observatories built by Jai Singh II in different parts of the country. This observatory consisting of outsized astronomical instruments is still in use.
Later you will visit Hawa Mahal.It is the ornamental facade of this “Palace of Winds” is a prominent landmark in Jaipur. Their five-storey structures of sandstone plastered pink encrusted with fine trelliswork and elaborate balconies. The palace has 953 niches and windows. Built in 1799 by Pratap Singh, the Mahal was a royal grandstand for the palace women. An overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 4Jaipur

After breakfast you will proceed to Amber Fort. You will assend the fort on the back of an Elephant. Amber is the classic romantic Rajasthani fort palace. Its construction was started by Man Singh I in 1592, and completed by his descendent Jai Singh I. Its forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise where a beautiful fusion of Mughal and Hindu styles finds its ultimate expression. Continue sight-seeing of Jaigarh Fort. It Western skyline is dominated by the extensive parkotas (Walls), watch-towers and gateways of Jaigarh. It is one of the few military structures of medieval India preserved almost intact containing palaces, gardens, open and covered reservoirs, a grannary, an armoury, a well planned cannon foundry, several temples, a tall tower and giant mounted cannon the Jai Ban the largest in the Country.
Then you will visit Laxmi Narayan Temple which is situated in the south of Jaipur. It is one of the many such temples built by wealthy Birla family in India, thus it is also known as Birla Mandir. The temple is a great reminder of the secular traditions India has shown over the centuries. The temple has been constructed in white marble and has three domes, each portraying the different approaches to religion. The temple is situated at the foot of Moti Doongri Fort, converted as a small palace by Ram Singh II for his wife Gayatri Devi. An overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 5Drive from Jaipur to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri

After breakfast drive to Agra enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri-The deserted, red Sandstone City, Emperor Akbar built that as his capital and palace in the late 16th century is an exhilarating experience. It a veritable fairytale city and its “ruins” are in pristine condition … it’s not hard to imagine what the court life must have been like in the days of its grandeur. Also visit the Bulund Darwaza, the largest gateway in the world. Continue drive to Agra and transfer to hotel. An overnight stay in Agra.

Day 6An overnight train from Agra to Varanasi

Early morning at sunrise visit Taj Mahal- the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, built it in 1631 in the memory of his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a Muslim Persian princess. She died while accompanying her husband in Behrampur in a campaign to crush a rebellion, after giving birth to their 14th child. Her death so crushed the emperor that all his hair and beard were said to have grown snow white in a few months. When Mumtaz Mahal was still alive, she extracted four promises from the emperor: first, that he build the Taj; second, that he should marry again; third, that he be kind to their children; and fourth, that he visit the tomb on her death anniversary. He kept the first and second promises. Construction began in 1631 and was completed in 22 years. Twenty thousand people were deployed to work on it. An Iranian architect designed it and it is best appreciated when the architecture and its adornments are linked to the passion that inspired it. It is a “symbol of eternal love”.
Also visit Agra Fort-the rusty and majestic red-sandstone fort of Agra stands on the banks of the river Yamuna and the construction was started by Emperor Akbar in 1566. At the Diwan-I-Am (hall of public audience), a colonnaded hall of red-sandstone with a throne alcove of inlaid marble at the back, the Emperor heard public petitions. At the Diwan-I-Khas (hall of private audience) where marble pavilions with floral inlays lend an ethereal ambience, the Emperor sat on his gem-studded Peacock Throne and met foreign ambassadors and rulers of friendly kingdoms. Late evening transfer to railway station to board the air-conditioned train to Varanasi. An overnight stay in Agra.

Day 7Varanasi

On arrival in Varanasi railwaystation meet assisr and transfer to hotel. Later sight seeing of Varanasi (the oldest and holiest city of India) covering Temples, Aurangazeb’s Mosque and the biggest university of India. In the evening, you will view “Aarti” ceremony on the Ghats. An overnight stay in Varanasi.

Day 8Train from Varanasi to New Jalpaiguri (nearest railway station to Darjeeling)

Early in the morning, you will go for boat ride at the river Ganges to observe the way of life of pilgrims by the Ghats. Later, you will drive to Sarnath, 10 kms. In the East of Varanasi, is one of the Buddhism’s major centers of India. After attaining enlightenment, the Buddha came to Sarnath where he gave his first sermon. Visit the deer park and the museum and later back to Varanasi to board the air-conditioned train to New Jalpaiguri (nearest railway sttaion to Darjeeling). An overnight stay in an air-conditioned sleeper class.

Day 9Darjeeling

Arrival at New Jalpaiguri (nearest railway sttaion to Darjeeling) and transfer to Darjeeling (94 Kms/3hrs). An overnight stay in Darjeeling.

Day 10Darjeeling Sightseeing

Early in the morning, you will visit Tiger hill to watch the spectacular sunrise and its amazing effects on the Mt. Kanchendzo- nga (world 3rd highest). Visit Ghoom Monastery and Natasha Loop War Memorial while returning to the hotel. You will come back to your hotel for breakfast, followed by full day local sightseeing covering Padmajan, Zoological Garden, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tibetan Refugee Self-help Center and visit to the Local Market. Day 11 Flight from Darjeeling to Kolkata

In the morning, after breakfast, you will be transferred to Baghdogra airport to board the flight to Kolkata. On arrival in Kolkata meet assist at airport and transfer to hotel. Later in the afternoon sightseeing tour of Kolkata covering important landmarks of the city like Victoria Memorial, New Howrah Bridge etc. An overnight stay in Kolkata.

In the month of April-May 2018, the Taj Mahal will be open for the night viewing from 28th April to 2nd May 2018. It is open two days before and two days after the full moon. The tickets are booked 24 hours in advance. The visitor is required to fill up a detailed form along with the copy of their passport.
Altogether, 400 tourists are permitted per night for the visit. The 400 tourists are divided into a batch of 50. There are only eight batches. The timings for the night view commences from 8:30 PM to 12:30 AM according to the Indian Standard Time.
WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE TAJ MAHAL
There are certain things which are not permitted inside the Taj Mahal. Any electronic gadget apart from your camera and mobile phone, eatables, wires, any sharp article like swiss knife, nail cutter, no religious books except travel guide books, match box, lighter, cigarette, liquor, and any promotional material.
HOW TO CLICK PHOTOGRAPHS DURING NIGHT VIEWING
The night viewing is one of the most breath taking, life time experience. The Taj is not lit up by artificial lights. It is the moonlight that lit up the entire structure. The time duration per batch is only 30 minutes, so normal photography will not be possible. In order to capture the moment, first change your camera or mobile to night vision mode. And then click the photographs. Another thing is that you will not be able to take selfie.
The Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World which is considered as the most photogenic destinations of India. It is one of the most exquisite structures ever built by any emperor. It was constructed by the fifth Mughal emperor in the fond memory of his favorite wife Mumtaj Mahal. The Taj Mahal in terms of architecture, is one of the most symmetrical structures in the world, constructed using pure white marble and adorned with precious and semi precious stones. The construction started in 1631 and got completed in 1653 AD; 20,000 workers worked day and night together for 22 years.

After breakfast proceed for sightseeing tour of New Delhi where ornate buildings recall the days when India was the Jewel in the crown of the British empire. Visit the 11th century Qutab Minar, India Gate and the grand government buildings, the President’s House, Mahatama Gandhi Memorial. Also visit Laxmi Narayan temple popularly known as Birla Temple. Day 3Flight from Delhi to Indore

Early in morning after breakfast and check out from the hotel & you will be transferred to the airport to board the flight to Indore. Indore city presents a happy blend of a historical past and promises of rapid future modernization. Indore is situated on the Malwa, on the banks of the small streams- the Khan and the Saraswati. They unite at the center of the city where a small 18th century temple of Sangamnath exists. The combined stream flows into the famed Chambal River. Day 4Drive from Indore via Omkareshwar and Maheshwar to Mandu

Earlier known as Mahismati, the town of Maheshwar is referred to in the ancient Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. It regained its glory during the reign of Rani Ahilyabai of Indore.
Omkareshwar: Omkareshwar, the sacred island, shaped like the holiest of all Hindu symbols, ‘Om’, has drawn to it hundreds of generations of pilgrims. Here, at the confluence of the rivers Narmada and Kaveri, the devout gather to kneel before the Jyotirlinga (one of the twelve throughout India) at the temple of Shri Omkar Mandhata. And here, as in so many of Madhya Pradesh’s sacred shrines, the works of Nature complement those of man to provide a setting awe-inspiring in its magnificence. Arrive Mandu & transfer to the hotel. Day 5Mandu

After breakfast, you will visit the Tomb of Hoshang Shah is the first marble monument of India where one can see the finest example of Afghan architecture. It has a well proportioned dome, porticoes courts, towers and intricate marble latticework. Jami Masjid is not far away from the tomb. The construction of the Masjid was started by Hoshang Shah and was completed by Mahmud I. It is considered Mandu’s most majestic building as it is modeled on the great Omayyed Mosque in Damascus.Delhi gate the main entrance to the fort was built in the year 1405-7. It has got a steep path with a sharp bend into the gateway and with low steps for elephant’s movement. Ashrafi Mahal famous as The Palace of Gold Coins is located on the opposite of Jami Masjid. It was built by Mahmud Shah Khilji as a school of Islamic study. The cells made for the resident students are still well preserved in the complex. An overnight stay in Mandu.

Day 6Drive from Mandu via Ujjain to Bhopal

After breakfast, you will drive to Bhopal enroute visiting Ujjain. Ujjain is among the great ancient cities of India. Situated on the right bank of the river Shipra, it is a very holy city for the Hindus, a site for the triennial Kumbh Mela, when countless devout Hindus get together to offer prayers during the auspicious time. Day 7Drive from Bhopal to Sanchi and return to Bhopal

After Breakfast you will visit the famous Buddhist pilgrimage site of Sanchi. It is one of the most ancient and popular Buddhist monument in the country. The construction of Sanchi Stupa is considered to an engineering marvel. Though it has gone through a lot of wear and tear, it has stood the test of time, maintaining its ancient glory till date. The stupa is known for the intricate carvings, which provide an insight into the life of Lord Buddha. In the evening, you will return to Bhopal. An overnight stay in Bhopal.

Day 8Drive from Bhopal to Bhimbetka and Bhojpur then return to Bhopal

After breakfast, you will drive to Bhojpur, famous for its exquisite stone carvings, and Bhimbetka that is home to the ancient caves of prehistoric times. Return to Bhopal in the evening. An overnight stay in Bhopal.

Day 9Drive from Bhopal to Pachmarhi

After breakfast, you will drive to Pachmarhi. It is situated at 1100 metres above sea level; this is the most exquisite all-season hill-resort of MP. Day 10Pachmarhi

Day 11Drive from Pachmarhi to Kanha National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Kanha. Kanha’s sal and bamboo forests, rolling grasslands and meandering streams stretch over 940 sq km in dramatic natural splendour. This is original Kipling country, of which he wrote so vividly in his Jungle Book. The same abundance of wildlife species exists today in Kanha National Park, which forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. The park is the only habitat of the rare hardground barasingha (Cervus Duvaceli Branderi). Upon arrival you will be transferred to Resort. Afternoon, you will go for a jeep safari into the forest. Day 13Drive from Kanha to Bandhavgarh

The undergrowth is not as dense as in some northern terrain forests, but the best time to see the park inhabitants is still the summer months when water becomes scarce and the undergrowth dies back. Day 15Drive from Bandhavgarh to Khajuraho

After breakfast, you will drive to Khajuraho.The legendary temples of Khajuraho are an incomparable experience. Acknowledged as one of the world’s artistic wonders, these temples dedicated to the Hindu pantheon of Gods are covered in carvings that are a paean to life and love. Built within a short span of a hundred years by the Chandela Rajputs, the 10th century temples lay forgotten until they were discovered in the present century. Orchha was the capital of Bir Singh Deo (1605-1627) who built the Jehangir Mahal to please the Mogul emperor Jehangir. Close-by, near the border of Madhya Pradesh, is Datia, site of the 7-storeyed palace of Bir Singh Deo. Afternoon visit local sightseeing of Orchha – palaces of the Bundela rulers still retained their medieval grandeur. Celebrate India’s Rich Heritage on the World Heritage Day
 World Heritage is the shared wealth of humankind. Protecting and preserving this valuable asset demands the collective efforts of the international community. This special day offers an opportunity to raise the public’s awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to its vulnerability.
On 18 April 1982 on the occasion of a symposium organized by International Council for Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in Tunisia, the holding of the “International Day for Monuments and Sites” to be celebrated simultaneously throughout the world was suggested. This project was approved by the Executive Committee who provided practical suggestions to the National Committees on how to organize this day. The various methods implemented to achieve its mission are:-
 Visits to monuments and sites, and restoration works, possibly with free admission
  1. Articles in newspapers and magazines, as well as television and radio broadcasts
  2. Hanging banners in town squares or principal traffic arteries calling attention to the day and the preservation of cultural heritage
  3. Inviting local and foreign experts and personalities for conferences and interviews
  4. Organizing discussions in cultural-centers, city halls, and other public spaces
  5. Conducting Exhibitions
  6. Publication of books, post-cards, stamps, posters
  7. Awarding prizes to organizations or persons who have made an outstanding contribution for the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage or produced an excellent publication on the subject.
  8. Inaugurate a recently restored monument
  9. Special awareness raising activities amongst school children and youth
